Kent State University
Kent, Ohio
Since 2013, our Golden Flashes have been organizing college students on their campus to get politically involved, register to vote, and fight for what they believe in. They started organizing around student loan debt and rising tuition costs, and are continuing to organize around emergency funding for undergraduate students.

Save the scholarships
Spring 2026
Under the implementation of Senate Bill 1, Kent State University was stripped of its identity centers. The LGBTQ+, Multicultural, and Women’s Centers provided essential services to minority students.
Emergency funding scholarships offered to students demonstrating significant and immediate need were stripped from students as the buildings where our communities once gathered were stripped of their souls. These scholarships were provided to students facing food insecurity, homelessness, and or inadequate access to healthcare.
These scholarships must continue to live on with students as the decision makers. Our goal: Collect 5,000 signatures and begin the voting process, ensuring our emergency scholarship becomes a permanent part of Kent State University.
By passing a tax referendum by students, for students, we can continue to support minority communities by replacing the scholarships that were lost. A five-dollar charge added to the bill of each student at Kent State's main campus would equal ~$125,000 per semester. The price of a coffee added onto each student's bill could provide an emergency $500 for around 250 students per semester.
