Students Rise up

Our national project

In September 2025, the Ohio Student Association partnered with the Sunrise Movement and organizations across the nation to build Project Rise Up — a plan to organize millions of students to disrupt business as usual and force our schools and our political system to finally work for us.

We are responsible for Students Rise Up (SRU), delivering thousands of Ohio’s students on a national level. SRU is a coalition of students representing thousands of students and workers on campuses across the country, united by a shared vision of winning a higher education system that puts the needs of students and workers over billionaires and authoritarians. We are aligning our bases around shared tactics, days of action, mass calls, and narrative, culminating in widespread campus strikes on May Day 2026. On that day, we rise up and strike back against attacks on higher education.

Why did we build Sru?

OSA created SRU because we know that Ohio is the blueprint for what happens in other states. We must stand tall and lead by example – if Ohio’s students rise up, so will Florida’s, Texas’, Virginia’s, and more.

Additionally, 2026 is a pivotal year for our election cycle: The governor, the Supreme Court, and several Senate and House seats are up for reelection. We need to enroll as many students into our mission to get them voting in the primaries and the general election this November. We are also the only organization in Ohio capable of building the amount of power needed for this movement to succeed.

While we are all fighting for different things, the threads are the same: College students deserve affordability, security, and freedom. We are replacing billionaire & corporate influence in colleges with an affordable and secure future for students & workers. May Day will show billionaires and politicians that students can impose a cost on them by refusing to continue with business as usual. We'll reject the billionaire takeover of our lives and take mass action to demand better.
